I much Enjoyed last night's Marriage Proposal. I had been hired By The Hour, not By The Piece, as I am usually hired for a Proposal Caricature. That gave me time to make the moment for them, to draw it out, to include the environment in the Picture.
And of course, Success. I never drew a Proposal Caricature which didn't get a Yes from my client's intended.
Surprised, though, that I did not take a direct photo of the finished Picture. It was pretty cold out last night, and while I offered an alternate indoor location, my client still wanted to be out in the wide scene. He chose Wollman Rink at Central Park. And it was quite beautiful. Sweeping lines of landscape, bright happy people nearby.
We can see the picture from the side in the photo which shows the woman signing "Yes" into her 'talk bubble'. I felt so happy for her because her man had given so much effort to making the Proposal a notable Event. He had even thought of arranging for me to ask her to come around to look at the Caricature instead of turning the finished Caricature to face them. Because he wanted time to get down on one knee and open the ring-box. The Lighted Ring Box. In which a bright light sparkled his ring in the early nighttime at Central Park.
He even knew that her manicure had been done that very day. He tended to so many details, while trusting me to be the Artist. As long as he was "down on one knee holding the ring", he left me free to design the picture as I liked.
We enjoyed the moment. I had time to arrange them to be relating to each other as they posed.
A good time was had by all.
