Lol ~ Tonight I agonized over a Wink I had drawn at one of last weekend's Events. I had communicated what I wanted in the Caricature, everyone enjoyed it, but I felt like I should be able to draw a Better Wink.

So I pulled the picture into my IPad, felt my own Winks in the Mirror, looked at Winking People Online, and decided that the eye moves Down while the Lip moves Up. It felt awkward to change this stuff on the already-drawn face, but I did whatever I could to remember what happens when a person Winks.

I noticed that the eye moves Down while the lips move Up ~ causing the cheek to 'flex'. Also affected the nose and the area above the lip and even the resting side of the face.

Then ~ just a random experience ~ I came across this Winking Man that I had drawn at a Party several Years Ago. That time, it had worked fine. I didn't feel like I had to go figure out how I could do it better.

It's funny to see that I had just lifted the Winking Eye Up that time. Apparently I had noticed the way the cheek lifted up when the man Winked at the Party, and that was enough to communicate the expression. I liked that. The Short Story.

So now I see from my Studying that Winking can be represented by Either moving the Eye Down OR Up. Either way is fine for CARICATURE ~ a picture that communicates without needing tedious reality. I could choose which way to handle it based on what's happening in the individual picture. But I do want to either lift it Up Or squash it Down. Just 'closing' the winking eye didn't feel like enough to me

Humility. I felt inspired by the way I recently organized my approach to Digital Caricatures, so I felt inspired to organize my approach to Caricatures Drawn with Markers. I used to consider that 'filling in the blanks', not 'real art'. Feeling like I Must Be Better Than That in order to be a Real Artist. But it only makes sense. So I'm not 'taken by surprise' each time I start to make a Drawing.

Turned out that I could only tailor it down to 3 Different Approaches. Outside-In, Inside-Out, and Exaggerated. I pretty much only felt successful with Outside-In and Exaggerated. I'm figuring that Outside-In is more suitable for Events like Communions, and Exaggerated is the way to go for Teenagers and Grown-Ups. Probably just a good Starting Plan at Events. Because the experience of actually using these different approaches was different than expected.

After several Successful Caricatures with one type of approach, I felt burned out on it. Didn't like what came out anymore. But if I switched to the Other Approach, the pictures were fresh again. And either way, I had to be doing Warm Ups as usual ~ to keep my lines Fresh.

I just got in.

I comfortably kept up my Drawing Speed today ~ Even though I was doing Both Body/Hobby And Color. I somehow Simplify when there's this other stuff to include.

The hardest part of doing Body/Hobby is communicating. Frequently the Music is too loud to talk, but that wasn't the case at today's lovely Party. Still though, people just draw a Blank when I ask them what they like to do.

Here's One of the pictures that I drew today. Finally, after the Paaauuusseee ~ while I was drawing the Faces with no idea of what else I would have to include in the picture ~ the girl said "Color. We like to Color."

It was easy for me to swing into Picture ideas. I was 'in the Zone' because I was forwarned that I would be doing Body/Hobby today
