Just warming up for tomorrow's Party. I used some random photos that I found on the internet. Of 4-year-old girls.
Good thing that I did. Because my first inclination was that my client might be wanting 'pretty' Caricatures (whatever That is ~ I just take it to mean sort of fill in the blanks ~ face with eyes, nose, mouth, hair). They came out okay.
But not as much Fun as a real Artist's interpretation. Based on feeling.
Here are 2 my first 2 warm-ups. First attempt at each one was me trying to be 'tame'. Then I played around with an aspect of what I was looking at. Redrew each picture Much Better. Now we're having Fun with Art. Play.
Art is Not supposed to be work. Artwork makes no sense. It's Either Art, OR it is Work. Can't be both.

I was recently commissioned to draw a Caricature for a Food Truck. I was sent only this one reference photo, and I was told that the guy should look like a greek god and that I should include that border design
What does he sell? All I could see was something about Fries and Ketchup. So I designed the following picture ~ figuring that whatever else it is that he sells ~ the idea of a whole sea full of lots of French Fries would be sure to attract customers. Many people just love french fries:
But my Client.... go figure..... My client ordered a 2nd Caricature based on this photo. He said it's because he was expecting a closeup of the man's Face ~ which is what I usually draw. I usually draw Face Only to keep the energy Up at Parties. My Client wanted the man's face to be large. And he wanted me to include that border. And Meat:
I felt glad to accommodate him. I like to keep my clients happy, and I felt glad to draw another Caricature. But I wonder.... wouldn't the first one (with the sea of fries) serve his purpose better?
Update: Client said "WOW!!!" with the 2nd Caricature that he ordered. And I can see what it is that must have affected him. The 2nd Caricature has Big Impact. Dramatic colors. Yes. Another job well done

I feel very excited about my new venture. I am stepping into Drawing Caricatures at Street Festivals. I did my first one at Massapequa Park. Then.... another one in Deer Park...... I'm on my way!
And along with that... go figure... I ended up with Commissions to draw the Food Trucks. Might be used as Advertisements for them. They sent me photos for it.
So now I'm feeling very excited about these Advertising Designs I created for them. Never a dull moment

It does take a bit of finesse to indicate age in a Caricature. Here, for example, are 2 pictures of the Same Girl. Only one of these pictures is the Correct one.
