My house has piles and piles of papers all over it just now. Even much more than it usually has ~ never thought that was possible. But I needed work done on the heating system, so the plumber needs access to All the radiators at one time. Including the one that (used to be but im getting new shelves build so it wouldn't obliterate the radiator anymore) is in my Studio. Where I had folders of all the kinds of papers that I pre-prepared for gigs.
I used to do a Lot of Portraits and Alla Prima Paintings (I love Oil Paints). But many years ago, I threw out a room-full of those Paintings because I needed the space for my Party Caricatures. And now that we're tearing apart the whole space egads egads, more old Paintings are surfacing. Intriguing me.
Like this one. I remember what I was doing at that time. This was just a study of a Shiny Cup ~ because I wanted to understand how to make my Portraits Glow. Crudely done, but I like it. Especially the base of the cup and the little plate that it is on

Still into Basics. I drew Pencil Portrait Hair from the photo of woman in yesterday's Excellent Caricature post.
At first, I felt like I forgot how to do Pencil Portraits. But then, my Pencil Lines started turning into Hair. It was all I could do to put down my pencil (for a while) and get back to the jobs that I have here in the Studio.

This is a Pencil-Portrait of my brother -
I created it many years ago -
before getting involved with Caricatures.
I used to do Portraits - primarily in Pastels,
but they would be a big deal to scan.
This Pencil Portrait fits on my scanner.
I used to do oil-paintings - first as layered transparencies,
but then I started having the real painting fun by working
'limited pallette'.
I have been thinking for a long time about
bringing my serious painting skills into my Caricature work,
but I haven't gotten up to it.
And once again, I'm thinking about it as I choose to
go to sleep.
I am taking the Action of posting this here tonight
to make my thoughts a litl more solid.
2009 - will be the year that I actually take out my paint-brushes again!
