Today I figured that I would draw Caricatures of the same reference photos that I have been using for several days now. I wanted to approach them differently today. Today I planned on doing some really slick line-work. Graceful.

But it turned out that probably the only way I could do that would be to go back to one of my previous drawings, and impose the linework onto that. But which one? Which version to impose the linework onto? I should have just picked one, but I didn't do that. What I did instead was to pay more attention to my Line Quality while coming up with a new Caricature.

It felt like all I ended up doing was slow.....thinking.....?.......or not?....... just dreaming?.....I don't feel like I'm Here. It felt like I was wasting my time. This is what I ended up with. For the first attempt. Not what I set out to do.

Then I didn't like focusing on graceful linework. Since this exercise was not working for that. So I decided to turn my attention to Colors for the 2nd Caricature.

Through all these different Caricature styles that I have been posting for the past few days, I'm still feeling like my First Basic Approach is the best. Maybe because that's what I'm most accustomed to doing.

I hope. I hope I still remember how to do that after all these forays into other styles. I want to feel Happy.

Or the 2nd Style. I'm still back to the same conundrum I always face when I get to Parties. Whether to use My Basic Style or My Exaggerated Style. It is taking a chance ~ like aka one of the Exaggerated Caricatures came out better than the other Exaggerated Caricature. Buy hey ~ if you can't take chances with your Artwork, you're probably plodding through a very dull life.

So I'll go back to drawing whichever one I feel like at Parties ~ taking Guest's Requests into consideration, of course. Drawing Party Caricatures is like a Conversation. Between the Artist and the Guests

I'm anticipating the Baptism where I will be drawing Caricatures this weekend. So I warmed up by drawing a Caricature of a random Baby's photo that I found online.

Then I chose random photos to make a Family Caricature with the Baby. I like the way the shapes of the faces fit together:

Then a tried out an unusual choice for Coloring it. I used home colors for the Shading on one face, and then I used Gray marker for the shading on another face ~ within the Same picture. I feel glad that I try things out at home. In this case, my mixed approach didn't Ruin the picture, but I still don't feel like it was a good idea. I hope I don't try this at the Party.

It's either One of the Other. Either Black/White Picture with Gray Shading. Or Color Picture ~ no gray shading.

It's hard to do, but I can do it.

Tonight I wanted to hone my clarification between Tame Caricatures and Exaggerated Caricatures. I'm really developing a very good ability to control this. I set out to draw Tame Caricatures, and they stayed that way. I drew Tame Caricatures. Based on some Photos that I had taken at Events.

But they were all Front Views. When we're involved with people, they have a habit of turning straight toward us. I wondered if I could draw 3/4 view Caricatures even if a person was looking directly at me. It's hard ~ takes a little more time and effort if the Guest doesn't sit in 3/4 view when I want to draw 3/4 view. But I can do it!

Hmmm..... Sometimes the Caricature looks better in the Front View, and sometimes it looks better in the 3/4 View. I feel like the best way to use this skill (if I have the nerve to do it at a Party) ~ is to choose the easiest way to get a good Caricature. I would only choose to draw a Different View than the one that I actually see ~ If I don't feel like the Front View has anything interesting in it. Or if I'm getting tired of drawing Front Views.

I'll frequently make Changes at intervals throughout the Event to keep myself interested. Because if the Artist isn't interested in what she's drawing, usually nobody else will be either. This could be just one more of the many different things that I change up when needed.

I took out some Shiny Paper that I didn't know what to do with. Real good quality, but intimidating. Because it can never get a Predraw. And Color Sticks don't stick well.

I just started making up Faces, and it was sooo much fun! This is going to be my new thing for a while (when I'm not working). Just linework.
