I have 2 gigs tomorrow. The first one is for CARICATURES. My Client said it's a Communion/Baptism and Double Birthday for his Mother and his Mother-in-Law. Just yesterday, I drew Caricatures at a Wedding, so I feel warmed up for the first Event.

But the 2nd one is for FASHION SKETCHES. Quick presto-changeo. Engagement Party. My Client said it's Harlem Rennaisance Theme, and she hopes people will dress the theme (like I will ~ I already have my clothes together. Fun.). But client said she's expecting that most people will be wearing Bright Colorful Dresses, because they are Caribbean. She said that's what they always wear to the Parties.

I figured I should warm up for that. So I drew a few practice Fashion Sketches here tonight. Focusing on Caribbean Fashion. And I did coach myself to remember a few thangs at the party.

The first picture I drew ~ the one with the colorful jumpsuit/cape.... Took too long to draw/color. Not sure yet how I would handle such a pattern at the event, but it usually comes to me when I wake up in the morning. After going to sleep with the question on my mind. For meanwhile, I was much faster with the subsequent pictures that I drew here tonight.

And I decided that I hate drawing on the Shiny Silver Paper. It was slick, and it felt hard to get the Colors to cooperate. I only had 2 sheets of the shiny silver paper, and it's good that I 'wasted' one sheet by practicing on it. So I won't be dragged down by it during the event.

What a pleasant surprise I had. Random Act of Kindness from a stranger.

I usually gift myself some down-time after I draw at a Party. It looks easy, but it feels intense to me when I'm done. I give it my all.

One of the things that I'm likely to do after drawing at a Party is to go to a restaurant. By myself. Clear my head from excitement. So it's funny that I'll frequently want to draw pictures at that time ~ still drawing ~ but at my down-time, it's drawing just for myself.

So there I was. Quiet. Drawing while waiting for my cheese ravioli to be ready. When..... a teen (or young adult) walked up to my table and silently handed me this note. She had no idea that I am a Professional Artist, so it was just her kindness ~ wanting to acknowledge what she saw.

It just took one quick moment to make me notice that there is love in the world. Just floating around out there. From the sort of people who are in tune with it:

I agreed to make some numbers on a slate for a friend. She wants to make a mosaic over it. Felt like an easy request ~ I imagined using a flat paintbrush with Gesso that sticks to everything. Big Solid Block Numbers.

But when it came time to do the project, she said she just wanted me to draw Bubble Numbers with a Sharpie. Oh! That makes sense ~ there's no telling how the glue and the grout would work on gesso.

But what to draw? Now I had to revisualize. Now it felt like a job.

I would have pointed that out to her, but it felt wrong. She is a good friend, and it does sound like a quick little thing to do.

So I ended up designing the sort of numbers that would be right. In my free time. I came up with these, so I'll be ready for whatever numbers she wants.

I don't mind having to spend my time on that. It just keeps me on my toes in case it feels right to use Numbers at my next Graffiti Party:
